Distinctly ours, a crown of leaves was awarded to Fred by the Wimbledon All England Club three years in a row, before it became the Fred Perry brand mark. Today it is the finishing touch (or main event) on every design – a symbol of individuality and belonging.
Where it all started. Fred’s first foray into tennis wear was not our ubiquitous polo shirt, but the humble sweatband. Inspired by his Wimbledon days, when Fred would play with a piece of gauze wrapped around his wrist, he teamed up with textile-expert Tibby Wegner to design something stylish and practical that would stop sweat from loosening a player’s grip. Adopted by sports players and musicians alike, the sweatband is the start of the Fred Perry story. A symbol of achievement and passion; sacrifice and triumph. A sign of being absolutely dedicated.

In 1952, Fred Perry founded his brand, designing his first pique tennis shirt the same year. The best dressed man in tennis, in our humble opinion, Fred’s aim was to bridge the gap on and off the tennis court.

The man always at the heart of our brand, Fred Perry was the son of a Stockport cotton spinner, who went on to become a triple Wimbledon champion. He played and fought his way through, always with style, and despite the establishment, and remains the only British player to ever achieve a Career Grand Slam.
