Brittney Griner is still detained. Still. It’s been haunting me. Thank you @talithawatkins for plugging me into @WinWithBLKWomen and other Black women leaders across the country to urge the Biden administration to do everything in its power to bring Brittney home.

When I was 19, fired up, and ready to change the world with my art & activism; I had a Professor that held up a mirror in the most honestly brutal way. It was in one of many social change courses I’d take for Urban Studies. There we were. Young radicals! (in our minds,) and that professor blankface said,
“You’ve already sold out. This is NYU. What is this if not a brand? A brand you wanted and are paying for.”
Talk about a knock out.
The reality is, unless you truly live off the grid, you will participate in industries and systems that cause harm. Who you choose to be, and how you operate in these systems still makes a tremendous difference. I always try to look for alternative ways of being. I don’t always succeed, but I do always try.
Sometimes all it takes is for one person to go…but how about…THIS way?
{De scrolls, “when you tread lightly the steps still count.” as a note to herself.}

So many are becoming familiar with the magic and power that is Octavia Butler.
With books like Parable of the Talents and Parable of the Sower, Octavia Butler examined human trends and projected our current reality. Many are turning to her now not only as a science fiction writer but a guide to navigate that reality.

“It's just a feeling. It's just a feeling.
It's like, how do you tell somebody how it feels to be in love?
How are you going to tell anybody who has not been in love, how it feels to be in love?
You cannot do it to save your life. You can describe things, but you can't tell them.
But you know it when it happens. That's what I mean by free.
I've had a couple times on stage when I really felt free and that's something else. That's really something else!
I'll tell you what freedom is to me: NO FEAR!
I mean really, no fear.
If I could have that half of my life. No fear.
Lots of children have no fear.
That's the only way I can describe it.
That's not all of it, but it something to really, really feel.
Like a new way of seeing.
Like a new way of seeing something."
Blessed #Juneteenth beloveds.
