Very excited to be back at @unseen.nairobi this Saturday for SEMA film club⚡️
On vibes duty after the screening are @nwao.wav and @djdda254 !! 💫
This weekend we explore music videos - the perfect meeting point of music and film. 🎞

Wrapping up one month of curation by Santuri Film Club at @unseen.nairobi !
⚡️🎞📽🎶
Last week, we went to the coast with a screening of “Zanzibar Music Club”, diving into the world of Taarab and it’s cultural heritage🌱
This week, we change the formula completely, with an outdoor screening focused on cinematic music videos from African & African American directors. We’ll ask ourselves “How do music and film interact? How has visual art taken certain songs from “good” to “iconic”?” Get ready for some great music videos and even better discussions!
This is a free event & the screening starts at 6:30pm. We are screening on the Unseen rooftop, *not inside the theater*.
As always, we host Unseen Jams from 8pm - this week we have curated freshness by DJ’s @nwao.wav & @djdda254 !
Crisp visuals by @joshoobaga & @mistaalu 🥇
No RSVP for this event, but show up on time because seating is limited!
Belgians, mukikuja Kenya muniongeleshe Kikamba, respectfully.
Can’t recount how much weight I’ve lost parambulating in these massive stations with barely any staff in sight to get information from and all signs in whatever language this is.
🚨Benchmarking Euro tour re-cap +
A really real Huilly Huile appreciation post :)
#longpost
Last year I made the decision that agent or no, I wanted to go on tour in 2022. The backbone for this to happen was to have a couple of solid bookings - I got my first bookings from loud bookings + V&A and with that I had the ammunition (invitation letters + promise of money + promises to leave the white man’s land once done) to bring down the first hurdle - Schengen visa.
Second hurdle international flights! Because of the pandemic, most festivals cannot secure flights for ‘up-coming’ artists and their teams. International Flights are worth almost 3 times my artist fee. The plan was to use advance payments from the first secured shows to fund the first leg of the tour in June, use funds fronted by Justin to finance the country to country commute. Finance the second leg of the tour in July with money from the first completed & paid shows, refund fronted money with money from second leg, come back home and see if I’ve broken even or just broken back (with all these bags, of clothes
I then started looking out for more shows (live and radio) to flesh out the tour. Thank you Kampire & Eva, Herve, Village Cuts, Nunas, Infine, Pete + David, Julien, Sunny Dolat, Adam Carter, Malik, Live Nation, & Justin + Daniel for the bonus glasto set 💫
With a little over 12 confirmed dates, Justin started on a tour transport plan, I hopped on Canva, made a quick tour announcement poster with images from Paddy (Asante Paddy, Jackie + Glam by Peaches) and off we went!
The whole tour was highs, lows, curveballs. Culture shock, white people begging.. (podcast loading)
In two months I played Clandestino, IKEA festival, L’aeronef, Moonshine, Glastonbury, V&A museum, Cosmo festival, Hor + Refuge radio, Paleo Nyon, Nuits Secrets pre-game, Relache - didn’t miss a set, a sound check, a single flight, a train, or a cab, or a meal all thanks to Justin’s organization, planning and communication!! also doubling up as tour videographer :)
If anyone out here needs a tour manager, @the_huile_mccoy is your man🙏🏾❤️
Big up to African artists moving around like this - @_kamaru_@kkaybie@slikback
Heading out to Brussels to join @peteonthecorner for a Pete on The corner Takeover - but after hovering in a circle over heathrow airspace in bad weather after a delayed departure I missed my connecting flight, donge?
@officialkenyaairways
Your headsets may not have been working, your food may have been strange,
HOWEVER
Thank you f (this is not a sponsored post)
thank you for the swift comms on WhatsApp and for issuing a re-booking for my flight in less than 20 min.
If anyone misses a connecting flight after flying KQ, WhatsApp the number +254 705474747 , move past the automated robot response onto a real agent, in my case Tsila who was amazing 🙏🏾
Alright, this day is dealing me blows so let me go figure out what it is exactly I’m doing with my life.
Alo :)
Come through this Saturday, me & @the_huile_mccoy are playing a DJ set at @unseen.nairobi from 8pm-11pm, right after @santuri_east_africa Santuri Film Club💫
The theme of Film Club this week is Jazz, so you can expect Hiphop, Jazz grooves and Funky house sounds and such.

Its always amazing to share the same space with this QUEEN! We love you @cocoem__ !!!!!! 💓💓💓💓🥰🥰😍😍
We are blessed that regardless of how busy this world class, superstar DJ, producer and film maker has been, trotting the Globe, the Queen of the Decks spared some time to come through and personified this tribe, for another #OurVersionOfBeauty Shoot!
Can you guess which tribe it is???
#Wodaabetribe! This look is inspired by the beauty looks of their #Gerewol festival during which men put on makeup, dress up and perform dances to attract a wife.
Gem like trinklets, and manipulated bent brass wire were used to recreate the #Wodaabebeautylooks that the tribes men create at the festival. They use black eyeliner made from charred bones to line their eyes and also their lips to accentuate the white of their eyes and teeth! Well who doesn't like a black lip and a reverse smokey cat eye for a bit of a contemporary edge?
Swipe left to see inspiration
P.S. We could not mention the wodaabe people with out mentioning that a call for help was put out for the Wodaabe People, since the start of Covid 19 as markets where they trade their cattle were closed. We are unaware of how this has progressed however we do know from a follow up call out that was put out just a month ago, that the Wodaabe have been facing more difficulty due to the lack of rain. Along with this post, we would like to take the time to highlight this. Please visit @africanceremonies page to find out more how we can help!
