5 years ago I came to Essence Black Women in Hollywood as @mimivaldes plus one. Yesterday she introduced me as an honoree. It’s all full circle. 10 years ago I took my first trip to NYC with my classmates and drama teacher. The mega bus dropped us off in midtown. A Broadway theater was one of the first things we saw as we pulled up to our stop. I remember thinking “Wow this little girl from the Westside of Detroit made it to Broadway!” I was in awe. This week I made my official Broadway debut in a play about my city. Written by our fellow technician and hometown hero @domorisseau. I’m grateful everyday I get to learn from legends like @rubensantiagohudson and @phyliciarashad and work alongside artist whom I can only aspire to be like one day Joshua Boone, @brandonjdirden, and @adesolaosakalumi. It is a gift. It is an honor. I pray the feeling of walking to work everyday and seeing my face on a marquee, lit up in all its glory, never gets old. Sometimes I just smile at it, sometimes I tear up, and sometimes I say “Wow this little girl from the West side of Detroit made it to Broadway” This one is for home. For the 313. For my people. For my culture. For our auto factory workers. For my family. For Cass. For Bates. For the Westside. For the Eastside. For some of Southfield(lol) For all the drama students and theater nerds that need to know this life is possible. For 17 year old me. Hope you’re proud.

Everything about my life has occurred on Gods time, not mine. It’s no coincidence that today, my birthday, is also the release day for my first cover. Elevation is always the goal and today I get to experience it in more ways than one. Thank you to the entire @refinery29 @r29unbothered team!
