An Alley of Courage was opened near the Verkhovna Rada building, on which the names of Ukraine's international friends and partners will be engraved.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky took part in the opening ceremony together with President of Poland Andrzej Duda, whose name was the first to appear on the Alley.
Also British Prime Minister Boris Johnson received the Order of Freedom – the highest award of Ukraine for a foreign citizen, as well as a name plate on the Alley of Courage during his stay in Kyiv on the Independence Day of Ukraine.
‘It is a symbol of courage, a symbol of friendship, a symbol of support for Ukraine when it is really needed,' Zelenskyy said.

This month we mark the 6 months since the beginning of russia’s full-scale military invasion of Ukraine. At the same time, Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine are also celebrating Ukrainian Independence Day on August 24th.
Ukraine declared independence on August 24th, 1991 and for 31 years has been a beacon of reform, democracy, and liberty in Europe.
Today, this progress is being stalled by russia's violent and destructive all-out war against Ukraine and Ukrainian freedom. The crimes russia has committed in the last six months are unspeakable, unconceivable. The millions of men, women, and children who suffer from russia's aggression, some of them having fled from the beginning of the war in Donbas in 2014 are experiencing the horror yet again, have had their lives changed forever. Ukrainians, those who were able to flee, are scattered all over the world now.
But Ukrainians are also stronger than ever. They are not giving up. They are now defending the values that Americans and the democratic world cherish most and will continue to do so - and Ukrainians and democracy will win!💪🇺🇦

On the eve of Independence Day, August 23, we celebrate the Day of the National Flag of Ukraine. The holiday was established “to honour the centuries-old history of Ukrainian statehood, the state symbols of independent Ukraine and to foster citizens’ respect for the national symbols of Ukraine” in accordance with the Order of the President of Ukraine from August 23, 2004.
🇺🇦The National Flag is one of the official symbols of state sovereignty. The blue and yellow colours on the flag have at least a thousand-year history. The heart of every Ukrainian skips a beat when the national flag is raised.
On August 23, 1991, the blue and yellow Ukrainian flag was brought by a group of people’s deputies into the session hall of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
The next day, Ukraine declared independence.
