Sometimes Making Something Leads to Nothing by Francis AlΓΏs (1997). AlΓΏs pushed a block of ice through the streets of Mexico City for 9 hours until it completely melted. After nine hours, the block was reduced to no more than an ice cube suitable for a whiskey on the rocks, so small that he could casually kick it along the street.

Dial this # now +1 (917) 994-8949. Dial-A-Poem was a revolutionary telephone service developed by artist John Giorno in 1968 where you could call a # and hear poems by William Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, and more. It was celebrated and it was censored. The service is still operable today (# above).
This fall, weβre excited about the late John Giornoβs exhibition of works at @moranmorangallery opening on September 17. Cherry Blossoms Are Razor Blades, save that date.

Sunday art history. German painter Heinrich Lossowβs The Sin (1880), depicting a scene from the Banquet Of Chestnuts, a party at the papal palace in Rome in 1501 hosted by Cardinal Cesare Borgia, the son of Pope Alexander VI. The event was depicted in the diaries of Apostolic and Master of Ceremonies Johann Burchard. Fifty prostitutes were dressed as nuns and hired to pick up chestnuts as they were strewn all over the dining hall.

Last night we attended the opening of his @gagosian exhibition of 500 digital sculptures at that exist on screens IRL and on the blockchain. Disparate objects careen and crash with atomic attraction in a matrical void, all set to a piano score by Pete Drungle. Outside, source material is laid waste in open vitrines. Chaos is on view until October 29.

Saturday feels. Autre is thrilled to premiere the music video for Ashes In Water, a breathtakingly tender and heartbreaking song from the ultra talented @juliussmack from his EP Serenity on @leavingrecords
It is a track about grief and omnipresent life in both the waking and dreaming worlds. The lyrics emerged from the summer of 2020, when the artist was quarantining on a lake, following the death of his uncle after a fast decline from alcoholism. One afternoon, smoking cigarettes and drinking beer at the waterβs edge, he recalls a dream in which a man, in a plaid shirt in a motel room, sliced himself open with an axe. Then his skeleton walked out of his body.
