Airborne gunners have fired a Royal Salute in Colchester today to mark Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in the way that only artillery can. With several thousand spectators watching, three guns from Colchester-based F (Sphinx) Parachute Battery, 7th Parachute Regiment Royal Horse Artillery fired a 42-gun salute in Castle Park at noon. A signaller from 216 Parachute Signal Squadron moves off the DZ after jumping into Exercise Swift Response alongside Italian paratroopers. A British liaison team was among some 400 soldiers from the 187 Reggimento Paracadutisti ‘Folgore’🇮🇹 who took off from Italy to jump into North Macedonia 🇲🇰. Pathfinders, the BCT's advance force, were first in to the field for the final phase of Exercise Swift Response. The troops, whose key role is to gather battle-winning intelligence and mark drop zones🪂 and landing zones🚁 for the main body of troops, jumped in from 18,0000ft by freefall parachute.
