#TBT: What looks like today’s modern French press was actually the instrument used by Marshall Nirenberg and his colleague Heinrich Matthaei to crack the genetic code. Nirenberg followed in the footsteps of George Mendel, the founder of modern genetics, whose 200th birthday would have been this month!
From Mendel to Nirenberg to the Human Genome Project, science has pushed at the boundaries of what we thought was possible. NIH and NHGRI are still moving forward and advancing genomic research for the health of all people.
