When @gloriasteinem and @msfoundation name you a woman of vision… you have to take a moment.
Whenever I’m in the headlines or receiving an award, I always feel the heavy weight of exceptionalism set in.
It’s a burden that even (especially?) in moments like this that I refuse.
Instead, I am reminded that I am representative.
Representative of what is possible when we empower people with the reproductive choices they deserve to control their bodies and futures.
Representative of the power of young people not just as the leaders of tomorrow but as the leaders of today.
Representative of the potential of the neighborhood and public housing I grew up in where talent was been distributed equally though were opportunities not.
Representative of the women who made me. Who opened doors ahead of me so I might open them for the girls that come after.
Thank you to everyone, including all of you, who made this possible. ❤️
