Issey Miyake, the revolutionary Japanese designer known for his innovative pleats and avant-garde geometric designs, has died in Tokyo of cancer, aged 84. His work created garments for both the genius and the masses, championing movement and freedom above all else. “I wanted the clothes to move when people moved," Miyake once said. "The clothes are also for people to dance or laugh.” Miyake, born in Hiroshima in 1938, had a storied career marked by his relentless optimism and egalitarian yet unconventional approach to design.
