Bocconi University, Milan, 2002-08. Architects: Grafton Architects, 2020 Pritzker Prize Laureates (Founded 1978 by Yvonne Farrell (b. 1951 County Offaly IRE) and Shelley McNamara (b. 1952 Lisdoonvarna IRE)). The section shows the overall tripartite strategy: a porous ground level, a cavernous base where light enters from above, and bars of offices bridging over the lower areas, held on concrete beams spanning 25meters held on massive structural piers. From the architects’ statement: “In order to make a grand space we thought about the research offices as beams of space, suspended to form a grand canopy, which filters light to all levels. The offices form an inhabited roofscape.
