Youssouf Sogodogo (b. 1955) is a Malian photographer known for his ongoing project “Les tresses du Mali” focused on documenting the craft and culture of hair braiding in Mali. The ongoing project which started in the 80s is inspired by the “golden age” of West African photography (50s-80s) from which renowned Malian photographers such as Malick Sidibé and Seydou Keïta emerged.
Sogodogo’s work has been exhibited locally in Bamako, Mali and internationally in France, Senegal, Morocco, Switzerland and Japan.
