Recently, my brother @julianbell_studio discovered a folder in his attic containing my childhood pictures, touchingly preserved by our mother, Olivier Bell. Here are a few of them - which seem to betray my liking for large crowds of women, winter sports, and princesses, mermaids etc in fairy tales (swipe right). The fourth picture, I noticed, is numbered “22” - and then I suddenly remembered why: in about 1961 our father Quentin Bell did a lecture tour in the USA and was away for over a month. To welcome him home, us three children worked tirelessly creating an exhibition of our art, carefully numbered and sellotaped to the walls of the playroom. I seem to remember he was very pleased.
