A friendly funk album for a Saturday coffee spin: Average White Band - ‘AWB’ (1974). . I didn’t know these (by origin) Dundee funk and soul masters are the fifteenth most sampled band in music history. . Of course ‘Pick Up the Pieces’ was a dancefloor killer and number one hit. Their first album sold poorly, but when they relocated to LA and got Arif Mardin to produce, this follow up - also called ‘The white album’ - was a million seller. . I have always loved that early seventies funk- soul sound. Very uplifting and this album is full of blue eyed soul and funk gems. .
