Did you know that there are 70,000+ small-scale fishing boats in Mexico, but no government requirement to document, report or reduce the incidental capture of sea turtles? That’s why Upwell is raising funds to collaborate with fishers in North Central Sinaloa to create fisher-led methods of bycatch reporting and reduction. Our partners on this project providing technology and expertise include Shellcatch, Grupo Tortuguero de las Californias, Centro Interdisciplinario de Investigación para el Desarrollo Integral Regional del Instituto Politécnico Nacional (CIIDIR) and Centro Interdisciplinario de Ciencias Marinas del Instituto Politécnico Nacional (CICIMAR).
