Tim Heidecker is one half of legendary comedy duo Tim + Eric but is also a competent musician in his own right who makes serious soft rock with a comedic edge. This is the second full album I’ve heard from him—the first being Fear of Death which had lush production, Weyes Blood features, and a Fleetwood Mac-like 70’s AM sensibility. On High School, Tim scales it back and Mac DeMarco does some of the production here and he did a good job. It has some field recording samples and hits that acoustic jangle synth vibe really well. I’m bordering on loving this album but the album kind of lacks this ambition that I liked a lot in Feat of Death. It’s very lax. This is a mellow and introspective album that I really dug—he’s always reflecting. Tim makes great music and should be proud. He talks about how he’s changed—and for the better. Although I like Fear of Death more—all of his music is worthwhile.
