To give you an example of the kinds of remarkable creatures that live in fresh water and the seas, here’s a video of what’s known as the toughest animal ever to exist — the microscopic tardigrade, or water bear. After appearing over 600 million years ago, this little beast has survived each of the 5 mass extinctions, whether the temperature is 151 degrees Celsius or -272 degrees Celsius. Even within the vacuum of space of near radiation, the tardigrade can cuddle up into a ball and survive it out. It also goes as far as repairing its own DNA; an example that tells us life will always persevere. There are 1,100 known species of tardigrades and continuing with what we posted yesterday; imagine all the unknown species that have yet to be found that also have other incredible characteristics that we can learn from and use to enhance our own lives…all of which will be wasted if we keep treating our sea life and environment the way we have been!
