Follow Tswalu this weekend as field guide @Barry_Peiser shares some of his favourite images and videos across our social media channels. Barry has been guiding at Tswalu for over 10 years, and spends his down time taking the sort of photos that make all of us yearn to go on safari!
Barry's image library (and ours!) got a serious boost during 2020 when travel bans and lockdowns meant fewer guests but plenty of time on the reserve with his camera.
"Throughout winter 2020, sparse vegetation and drought conditions made for excellent sightings of rare and elusive creatures, like aardvark and caracal. Waterholes were a rewarding place to spend time, especially when a herd of giraffe came for a drink. I spent several hours at a stretch at this particular spot."
At the link in bio, read Barry’s story about the unexpected gift of spending large chunks of time alone in nature.

So glad to see @sagarmathanext open up, after years in the planning by a great team of Sherpa and locals in Nepal 🙌
This mountain center and innovation hub lies on the trekking route to Mt Everest, and serves as a place for people to learn more about sustainability and waste management - which is such an important part of protecting Sagarmatha National Park for the future 🗻 ⠀
⠀
Being home to the world’s highest mountain, the Khumbu region receives an ever-growing flow of visitors from across the globe. While this has brought socio-economic development in the area, it has also put a lot of pressure on biodiversity and the region delicate ecosystem during the last few decades. ⠀
⠀
I've been working with this group of changemakers for over 10 years now, in documenting their story - and for the last few years me and @ivarstudios have been involved in creating a film as well as a full exhibition about the problems and the solutions to these problems. All of this is now on display inside the Sagarmatha Next center above Namche Bazaar, so all tourists can engage with the story! Including several pieces of VR content that seems to be highly appreciated! 🥽 ⠀
⠀
By highlighting art and innovation, and offering a Waste Lab where locals and international artists and products designers can transform waste into art work and design products. Sagarmatha Next also offers a space to learn about the mountains and alternative trekking routes, environmental challenges, local culture, and solutions in Sagarmatha National Park and the Khumbu region. ⠀

Found paradise in a corner of Karnataka overlooking the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats. There’s a lot going on in the world, sometimes it’s easy to forget that we all need to find ways of replenishing and reconnecting with ourselves. That should not be a privilege, but a God-given right. For a few short, sweet days, I was offered an exhale amidst nature, kindness, and environmental consciousness with one of my favourite people. Thank you @kahani_paradise. May all beings experience such an embrace. Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu
