Value and color play the most important roles in my paintings. I use these two elements to create balance and movement across compositions that may otherwise feel structurally imbalanced or heavy with detail. Since much of my work focuses on capturing as much life and detail as possible, Hello coral reefs, I have found playing with these elements are essential to creating better work.
In “Eternal Seas” I focused on creating a warm hue in the water by placing a yellow wash on the canvas before painting the main layers with teal, turquoise, and titanium white. Once I had my core color for the atmosphere, I placed these hues and tones in micro details across the entire artwork, which subtlety created cohesion.
I hope you have a beautiful day and weekend! 💙
