Photo by Karine Aigner @kaigner | The baby harpy eagle is a force. Resembling a small, cotton-covered turkey, this phenomenal creature grows by the minute. I met "Baby" in Brazil when it was two weeks old. Four weeks later, Baby had gone from a teeny ball of fuzz to this strong, filled-out chick. In my mind, Baby was a “he.” We even had conjured up different male names for the chick. A month or so later, when I asked a biologist if he might know the sex of the chick, he confirmed that Baby was a “she,” which made me happy. This chick's mother is one of the most badass creatures I’ve ever met, and since baby harpy eagles stay with their parents for over a year, she's got a good role model.
