Spread across 1,000sqft this studio space in Anoop Nagar at Indore is the creative hub for Studio 33 (@studio33.architects), an architectural design practice founded by Ranu Verma (@ranuuverma)and co-founder, Naman Bharihoke (namanbharihoke). For the last three years, the duo had been working out of a study room, and while their closest confidants always suggested they rent out a space, the duo clearly wanted their own studio with a seamless flow between the indoor and outdoor spaces. So, one day when Naman was looking for a tenant for his ground floor space, which earlier used to be his house, it occurred to the duo that they could make a few civil changes and have their studio there instead.
“It just so happens; this space is centrally located and our dream to have a space with a seamless flow that had indoor and outdoor pockets was met. A reason we never moved into a commercial space was because we didn't want to compromise on surrounding our senses with greenery.”
The studio has an open layout. Ranu and Naman broke the walls between the hall, bedroom, verandah and kitchen to accommodate a workstation and meeting area. The kitchen was further divided into a pantry and toilet. Upon entering the main gate of the house, on the right you see a verandah extending into the frontyard landscape. The main entrance itself is a full height pivot wooden door with two columns that feature a beautiful terracotta sculpture at centre. Ranu says, “These columns create a visual partition between the meeting table and the entrance. On the right, we see the workstation area which is enclosed by a 850mm high wall between the meeting and working space.”
