Good things happen when No Rome and The 1975 work together, and “Spinning” is no exception. It strikes a different tone from “Narcissist,” but it’s not the farthest distance from “TOOTIMETOOTIME,” just relishing in that beat and dripping with effervescence. I’ve never really gotten into Charli CCX, but her voice is a great fit here. The production is so tight and creative, and I love the way those vocals are chopped up and how much everything is layered and packed in without ever feeling like it’s falling over itself. It’s pretty impressive how it has these truly maximalist elements but still comes across with a sense of restraint through the execution (and repetition). This isn’t my favorite of the No Rome or The 1975 styles, but it still hits. The remix is a funHouse mirror version of the original, maintaining the heart and catchiness but stripping things back and tossing in a few new cartoon-like sounds, jumbling everything around a bit in a way that’s a little disorienting. It’s still really cool, but you’d never confuse it for the sort of infectious pop song the main version is. The art for this is cute, the embossed sleeve is nice, and I like that the vinyl is a little pop of color when you pull it out of the sleeve. Solid release all around. Swipe right to just keep spinning over there.
