This is a weird one for me. At the time @thegaslightanthem were my favorite band, but this album never connected with me. Given the theme of the album and the lyrics and where my life was at the time, it should have resonated more, but sonically it just never connected. It just didn’t pack the punch. I know a lot of people love this album, but even years later I find it unfamiliar. The direction of how this album sounds is giving me the biggest apprehension about the return of the band, but I’d love nothing more than to get another album that followed in the sound of the rest of their catalog.
So why do I own this album if I don’t love it? A few months ago it popped up in a Facebook waffle and it was the last of their studio albums I needed. But what really attracted me was the story around this. Apparently there was a box of these records discovered last year in a Walmart warehouse or something left over from the album release tour 7 years prior and Walmart threw them up on their website. I’m not sure how the guy I got it from got it, but it was still sealed. My understanding is last year when it happened @bennyhorowitz verified it on Twitter.
