Book 17/2022- In the Shadow of a Mountain by Silvia Vasquez-Lavado
This inspirational read is one woman’s epic adventure of reaching the top of Everest.
Silvia Vasquez-Lavado takes the reader through the memories of her life and the reasons behind what pushed her to reach the top of the world.
Silvia is honest, intimate and courageous as she details what it was like growing up in Peru, being sexually assaulted by the house cleaner as a young girl, struggling with alcoholism and trying to come to terms with her sexuality.
Silvia unpacks all this whilst she is guiding a group of young girls who are all sexual assault survivors, to base camp. After leaving the girls to return to down the valley Silvia continues up to the summit of the highest mountain of the world.
In the shadow of the mountain is a memoir of pain, of courage, of brutal (sometimes graphic) honesty and of lessons taught by the mother.
It’s not just a story of climbing a mountain but also a story of how to climb life’s big obstacles.
A recommended memoir of one girls struggle to reach the top.

The dust motes floated through the air; the sunlight cast through the old windows illuminating them. They trickled through the air of the vintage building. She walked among the aisles, the smell of must and paper filling her nose. The library was almost silent, just the subtle sounds of pages turning. But then there was a scream that shattered the stillness.
A murder in a library and four strangers connected from the confusion and fear. Can they find the murderer or is it one of them? The Woman in the Library is a murder mystery that connects four complete strangers that happen to be in the library while the murder of a young woman is committed. They ultimately form a Scooby-Doo murder solving gang, minus the dog, and try to piece all the clues together. But their menacing puts them in danger.
This story is a book within a book as one of the main characters is writing a book, which happens to be the mystery that is unfolding. This was a fun audiobook to listen to and I always love a book about books!
If you’re a fan of murder mysteries, library settings, and books about books, then be sure to pick up a copy of this one!
