Comet C/2017 K2 (Panstarrs) taken on July 20th. There has been some hype about this comet, but unfortunately it’s not that bright and impressive as some other comets that we’ve had over the last 2 years. The comet was fairly far at 170 million miles which explains why it’s not that bright. You can definitely see a tail extending up in this image a fair distance. This image was cropped in using a 400mm FL telescope, so I’m reality the tail is quite short. The comet was close to its brightest and should start to fade now through the remainder of the year. I’m glad I captured it, but looking forward to the next great comet to make an appearance! Telescope: 8” RASA f/2 Camera: Zwo ASI2600MC Pro Exposure: 30 x 1min Mount: iOptron Cem70 Guiding: Meade ASI120mini, 60mm scope Filter: IDAS LPR D2 Software: APT, DSS, Pixinsight
