Really nice to see one of Steve Morse's earliest shows with Deep Purple (his 17th one 😅) released officially on vinyl as 'Bombay Calling'. The 'Purpendicular' album was still being recorded at the time of the gig (April 18th 1995) and the band was testing some of the still unreleased songs live, 'Purpendicular Waltz' at this particular show. The rest of the songs played that night were still pretty much the ones from the 'Battle Rages On' set list (Satriani tour version) with some small changes here and there. Cool renditions of 'Maybe I'm A Leo', 'When A Blind Man Cries' and specially a killer 12-minute 'Anya' with Morse doing a terrific job. Lame artwork and even worse liner notes (🤦🏻♂️), I'd do a better job for free. Deep Purple fans deserve better for a REALLY expensive product like this, but still it's a cool addition to the never ending saga of DP live albums.

Listening to Accept's 'Fast As A Shark' double bass drum. Gary Moore's flashy-but-classy guitar playing. Queensryche doing a type of fascinating music no one else played at the time. Hearing all those Yngwie Malmsteen crazy riffs and solos for the very first time on that Alcatrazz record. My mind was blown by all of the above back in the early-mid 80's 👆🏼
