The Indiana Steam Clock
In tonight's episode we find Mr. Wil White. World traveler, runner, massage therapist and all around good guy. Sarcastic at times, but people ignore this side of him.
Imagine mindlessly meandering along this unsuspecting canal in Indianapolis when he suddenly sees a clock. Not just any clock, but a steam clock. Very much like one he just witnessed two months ago in a different country, a different town. A clock that was also created by the same man. Is this for real, or is he forever lost... in The Twilight Zone?
No frickin' way in the middle of the USA did I just stumble upon this steam clock! For those that will recall, I did see the original in Vancouver in May. I had no idea that this one existed.
'The Indiana Steam Clock was designed for the Indiana State Museum by horologist Raymond L. Saunders and was inspired by his world famous Gastown Steam Clock in Vancouver, B.C., Canada. This steam clock is made of stainless steel, with brass trim, is 17 feet high, and weighs 1.5 tons. High-pressure steam, that heats the Museum, is reduced to 20 PSI for the 8 brass whistles. The steam whistles play "Back Home Again (in Indiana)" on the quarter hour. The four clock dials are operated by the weight driven mechanism which has a 'pinwheel' escapement and is wound by an electric motor and loop chain system. A model of the earth, rotating at 3 RPM, is illuminated by a miniature 'sun' lamp.'
