This was a weirdly laid-back arrest for a direct action, probably because there were 180 people arrested and the cops had to process us outside in the heat. As you can see the cops didn’t even use zip-tie cuffs, just wristbands! Normally, you’re not able to keep brandishing a sign mid-arrest but there is clearly power in numbers. Just the week before, I was arrested in NYC with a small group and I still had marks from the zip-tie cuffs on my wrists 24 hours later. But imagine the DC cops having to cut 180 zip-ties off arms … those things aren’t even easy to cut!
