It was great to meet with Vice President Osinbajo of Nigeria today to discuss strengthening the relationship between the United States and Nigeria. African leadership, and in particular, Nigeria’s leadership, is key to confronting regional and global challenges.
Today I spoke with seniors about how the Inflation Reduction Act will help lower their costs and address the challenges they face to afford the medication they need. @POTUS and I will continue fighting to build a nation where affordable health care is guaranteed to all.
This week, I met with STEM students at @NASAKennedy. With their innovation and vision, America’s next generation will soon chart our path forward in space. To all the young leaders out there: Keep dreaming and keep doing.
During my visit to the Kennedy Space Center, I met with STEM students, astronauts, and the team building the vehicle that will return Americans to the moon – including the first woman and person of color. With the Artemis missions, we are entering a new era of space exploration.
One of our priorities for space is investing in the next generation of STEM leaders. Investing in STEM education is critical to continuing our leadership and preparing the nation’s STEM workforce to fuel the economy of the future.
In Oakland at the Chabot Space & Science Center, I met Sala Ba. Sala is a sophomore studying mechanical engineering at Stanford University. She grew up in Northern Virginia with her parents and older sister. At Stanford, Sala serves as a coordinator for Lab 064, a community maker-space in the Electrical Engineering department. As a coordinator, Sala trains students on maker-space equipment, hosts workshops where attendees can learn to put together 3D printers, and guides students on mechanical and electrical engineering projects by connecting them with resources in the department.
Sala told me that she believes everyone is capable of understanding STEM topics and is passionate about taking the time to share any knowledge or skills that she comes across. It’s students like Sala who excite me about our future. As Chair of the National Space Council, I am working with commercial space entities to leverage the growing space economy to support historically underserved and underrepresented communities so that the benefits of space can be enjoyed by all Americans.
Women’s Equality Day marks a monumental step forward in expanding voting rights, reminding us that the fight is not over. With many extremist so-called leaders proposing and passing laws that undermine the fundamental right to vote, we must ask ourselves: do we stand, or do we fight?
It’s been 102 years since the adoption of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. While we have made important gains in the fight to protect the right to vote, one thing I know to be true is that our fight for equal access to the ballot box is never over.
In the last two years, we’ve seen states pass anti-voter laws that would make it harder to vote by mail, use a drop box, or even have food and water while waiting in line. That’s just unacceptable for the women of America.
I think of the work of the countless women of color: Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Fannie Lou Hamer, Constance Baker Motley, and Mary Church Terrell ––who were all essential in the fight for women’s suffrage and voting rights. In my time as Vice President, I’ve met with election poll workers, disability rights advocates, and young leaders fighting for voting rights. In honor of those women and countless others, we must continue the fight for democracy.
Federal student loan debt has weighed heavily on our nation, preventing people from pursuing their dreams, whether it be to start a family, buy a home, or start a small business.
Today, @POTUS is taking action to provide $10,000 in student debt cancellation for those who make less than $125,000 per year, and $20,000 in debt cancellation to Pell Grant recipients who make less than $125,000 per year.
We will also extend the federal student loan pause a final time through December 31, 2022 to provide borrowers a smooth transition back to repayment.
Additionally, the Department of Education will make the student loan system more manageable for current and future borrowers by cutting monthly payments in half for undergraduate loans and holding schools accountable when they hike up prices.
The investments we’re making in STEM education will have a lasting impact on our nation. As chair of the National Space Council, I’m excited for our young leaders to explore and be inspired by space.
Dr. Fauci is an incredible public servant whose decades of leadership in science and medicine saved countless lives across the world. Dr. Fauci’s work helped guide our nation through its most challenging public health crises, and I am grateful for his service.
