From my play "Movin Out" such an honor to have choreographed this piece with a dear friend of mine, Billy Joel. Always fun to reminisce on this wonderful opportunity. #dance#honor#billyjoel#love#movinout
1962: married Peter Young who was a painter who I met at Pomona College. My second husband Robert Huot, who was an artist. (pictured here) As I entered Pomona College, I began working with other choreographers such as: Martha Graham, Igor Schwezoff at the American Ballet Theater, Richard Thomas and wife Barbara Fallis, and Merce Cunningham to name a few. I'm so lucky to have married the man of my dreams and the chance to work with amazing choreographers. #marthagraham#mercecunningham#barbarafallis#dance#americanballettheater
Choreographed with Billy Joel for my play "Movin' Out" I love looking back at this and remembering telling a story of a generation of American youth growing up in Long Island. So #blessed and #honored to have the opportunity to choreograph with Billy Joel, a dear friend of mine. #movinout#play#dance#honored#billyjoel#love#life
I have collaborated with great musicians, designers, thousands of dancers, and almost 100 companies. As a modern dancer and choreographer, collaboration is a way of working in harmony with others that begins with a point of view. Collaboration takes teamwork and effort. I feel so #happy and #blessed to share this book with other inspiring dancers and choreographers. #dance#love#thecollaborativehabit#lifelessons
My autobiography #pushcomestoshove. I wrote this about my regimented childhood under the tutelage of an ambitious mother, development as a choreographer/dancer, love affairs and marriages. Definitely inspires me to keep dancing. #honor#blessed#ambitious#choreographer#life#love

I am so #blessed that my dancing career is taking off and #inspiring so many people. I've always loved choreographing contemporary pieces as it is my favorite type of style. It is so touching to know that my work has inspired so many others while liked by other dancers such as Martha Graham, Alvin Ailey, Isadora Duncan, etc. I hope to continue my dancing legacy. #dance#honor#alvinailey#marthagraham#isadoraduncan#love#inspiration
Born on July 1, 1941 in Portland, IN. I'm an author, choreographer, and dancer who currently lives in New York City. Graduated from Barnard College in 1963 with a degree in art history. In 1966, I formed my own dance company Twyla Tharp Dance in 1965. My work incorporates classical music, jazz, and contemporary pop music. I have choreographed over 160 works, 129 dances, and 12 tv specials. At age 8, my family and I moved to the desert of Rialto, CA. As my dancing career was taking off, I started taking dance lessons at the Vera Lynn School of Dance at age 12. I can't wait to see where my dancing career takes me in the future. #dancer#choreographer#author#love#dance
