We are saddened to learn about the passing of Santa Cruz Valley Unified School District Board Member, Mr. John Hays. Mr. Hays was a compassionate public servant who was determined to make his entire county a better place for current and future generations.
A dedicated father of two Rio Rico High School graduates, Gilbert and Patrick, Mr. Hays had served on the SCVUSD No.35 Governing Board since 2014. In addition to his elected service, he provided the District with thousands of photos over the years from various sporting events.
Santa Cruz Valley Unified School District No. 35 would like to extend our thoughts and sympathies to Mr. Hays’ family and friends as well as everyone in our Santa Cruz County community.
The Rio Rico baseball program put on a youth baseball camp this past weekend.
For two days, approximately 50+ kids ages 6-13 came to Rio Rico participating in a number of drills with the coaching staff, players and alumni.
The camp provided exposure to Rio Rico baseball and formed genuine relationships with the community. #SCV35AboveTheBar

And the 2021-2022 SCV35 Administrator of the Year is........ Mimi Renteria, Principal at San Cayetano Elementary
"Mrs. Renteria is the most caring and supportive staff member, she is a loving principal, she supports the staff in all possible ways, she makes the time to make you feel listened to and understood, when you are with her, she stops whatever she is doing to pay attention to you and helps you find the right tools or strategies to help out with any situation. She definitely creates a positive work environment and a happy place to work being part of the amazing Cheetah family."
During the 2022-2023 Annual Welcome Back, SCV35 celebrated our dear friend, Jo Ayon, the amazing accomplishments of our students, our dedicated staff, and the 50th anniversary of Santa Cruz Valley Unified School District No. 35.
It was a high-energy morning that included student performances, staff recognition and yes, dancing.
Welcome to the new school year!
