Ultra-Rare Spider-Man 5 - Toy Biz Reprint from 2001 - Torment Part 5 This is really cool to me, because I bought this years ago, have had it ever since, but never knew it was so hard to find these days. This issue was reprinted in a small batch (compared to the original print run from 1990) to go out with the Battle Damage Spider-Man Marvel Legends Action Figure. I worked at a toy store at the time and we got two figures from that batch. I bought it specifically because I wanted the Todd McFarlane Spider on the cover’s Barcode Box to be the model for the Spider-Man tattoo I was getting on my arm. I had lost most of my childhood collection at this point, so I bagged and boarded the book and have kept it these last few decades. Todd McFarlane’s Spider-Man Torment Part 3. Something strange is going on here, indeed. I want to talk about this issue for a second, because at first the cover is mildly interesting... “Oh look the title is upside down”, with that added hint of “oh man, is Kraven still alive?!” And then you get to that final page and you get the darkest reveal you’ve ever seen in a Spiderman title... Suicide-Face-Kraven To me, Torment was the worst day Peter ever had as Spider-Man (which was absolutely the point) and I was so relieved when it finally concluded. So very detailed and bloody. An absolute precursor to Image Comics and especially Spawn.
