𝟓𝟏 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐠𝐨,"𝐖𝐡𝐨'𝐬 𝐍𝐞𝐱𝐭" 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝. Who's Next is the fifth studio album by English rock band the Who. It developed from the aborted Lifehouse project, a multi-media rock opera written by the group's guitarist Pete Townshend as a follow-up to the band's 1969 album Tommy. The project was cancelled owing to its complexity and to conflicts with Kit Lambert, the band's manager, but the group salvaged some of the songs, without the connecting story elements, to release as their next album. Eight of the nine songs on Who's Next were from Lifehouse, the lone exception being the John Entwistle-penned "My Wife". Ultimately, the remaining Lifehouse tracks would all be released on other albums throughout the next decade. Who's Next was an immediate success when it was released on 14 August 1971. It has since been viewed by many critics as the Who's best album and one of the greatest albums of all time. Mark Freuder Knopfler OBE (12 August 1949) is a British singer-songwriter, guitarist, and record producer. He became known as the lead guitarist, singer and songwriter of the rock band Dire Straits. He pursued a solo career after leaving the band in 1987. Dire Straits reunited in early 1991, but dissolved again in 1995. He is now an independent solo artist. Knopfler was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and raised in Blyth, near Newcastle in England, from the age of seven. After graduating from the University of Leeds and working for three years as a college lecturer, Knopfler co-founded Dire Straits with his younger brother, David Knopfler. The band recorded six albums, including Brothers in Arms (1985), one of the bestselling albums in history. After they disbanded in 1995, Knopfler began a solo career, and has produced nine solo albums. He has composed and produced film scores for nine films, including Local Hero (1983), Cal (1984), The Princess Bride (1987), Wag the Dog (1997) and Altamira (2016). Fans find many nested clues in the shot of the four band members walking in stride across the street, fuelling rumors that Paul McCartney is dead. 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 @rockhistation 𝐚𝐧𝐝 @ucoofficial #quality There is no text on the cover, just the photo. John Lennon leads the way, followed by Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison. The "Paul is dead" rumors have been floating around since the group stopped touring in 1966 - it was whispered that he had been replaced by a lookalike. On the cover, McCartney is smoking a cigarette and is barefoot. In the conspiracy theory, he represents a corpse in a funeral procession, with Lennon (in a white suit) the priest, Ringo (in black) the pallbearer, and Harrison (in casual clothes) the gravedigger. Then there's the Volkswagen Beetle parked askew on the side of the street. The license plate reads "28IF," as in McCartney would be 28 years old if he were still alive. Sounds nutty, right? Well, Life magazine takes them seriously enough to go with the headline "Paul Is Still With Us" on their November 7, 1969 issue after they track down McCartney, who has decamped to Scotland with his family. It was McCartney who came up with the concept for the cover. The Beatles were still working on the album and things were a little tense, so the shoot had to be quick and easy. It takes place at 11:35 a.m. and lasts about 10 minutes, with photographer Iain MacMillan taking six photos from a stepladder in the middle of the street while police block off traffic. McCartney picks the cover photo.

On This Day 1983 (25.07.1983) . . Metallica release their debut album, Kill 'Em All, three months after parting ways with guitarist Dave Mustaine. THE BEST OF THE Kill 'Em All !!! Mustaine, who was fired from the group before it was released, is listed as a co-writer on four songs, including "The Four Horsemen," who later re-works it as "Mechanix" with his group Megadeth. with @rockhistation #quality Kill 'Em All is the debut studio album by American heavy metal band Metallica, released on July 25, 1983, through independent label Megaforce Records. Metallica began by playing shows in local clubs in Los Angeles. They recorded several demos to gain attention from club owners and eventually relocated to San Francisco to secure the services of bassist Cliff Burton. The group's No Life 'til Leather demo tape (1982) was noticed by Megaforce label head Jon Zazula, who signed them and provided a budget of $15,000 for recording. The album was recorded in May with producer Paul Curcio at the Music America Studios in Rochester, New York. It was originally intended to be titled Metal Up Your Ass, with cover art featuring a hand clutching a dagger emerging from a toilet bowl.
