A rare gem of the Cape York relic rainforests - the palm cockatoo. Endearingly inquisitive and fiercely intelligent. This elusive species has recently been placed on the endangered species list primarily due to habitat loss. Now, the Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve acts as one of the last strongholds left for these icons of the north. It was a humbling privilege to spend close to an hour photographing this individual. As he peacefully watched me, it seemed as though we both had the same quiet fascination for one another.
