“Kasimir Malevich, Raku Kichizaemon XV “

12 May – 9 July 2022

The exhibition shows Jikinyū’s latest production of twenty ‘White Rock’ tea bowls shown
side by side with the drawings of Kasimir Malevich.
Jikinyū has been experimenting on a series of black tea bowl as he named it ‘Ganseki’ literally ‘Rock’ tea bowl.
A couple of examples from this series were first presented in the exhibition entitled "Kichizaemon X: Raku Kichizaemon, Raku Atsundo, Raku Masaomi, a first and final father and son exhibition" held at Sagawa Art Museum as well as in "The Cosmos in a Tea Bowl – Transmitting a Secret Art across Generations of the Raku Family" held at National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo and Kyoto.
The exhibition at Sagawa Art Museum in 2020 of "Kichizaemon X: Saito Takashi x Raku Kichizaemon XV・Raku Jikinyu" was the first to feature this series.
The Black Rock series are followed by the current White Rock series inspired by Malevich’s drawings shown in "Kichizaemon X: Malevich Drawings + Raku Kichizaemon XV・Jikinyu Tea Bowls" held at Sagawa Art Museum in 2021.
The current exhibition in London is a follow up of this last, showing more of Jikinyū’s latest production of White Rock tea bowls made in 2022.
