Architecture beauty 👗 Iranian architecture displays an excellent structural and aesthetic variety from various traditions and experiences. Without sudden innovations, and despite the repeated trauma of invasions and cultural shocks, it has achieved "an individuality distinct from that of other Muslim countries." Its paramount virtues are: "a marked feeling for form and scale; structural inventiveness, especially in vault and dome construction; a genius for decoration with a freedom and success not rivaled in any other architecture".
Traditionally, the guiding formative motif of #Iranian architecture has been its cosmic symbolism "by which man is brought into communication and participation with the powers of heaven." This theme has not only given unity and continuity to #Persia's architecture but has also been a primary source of its dynamic character. According to Persian historian and archaeologist Arthur Pope, the supreme Iranian art has always been its architecture in the proper meaning of the word. The supremacy of architecture applies to both pre-and post-Islamic periods.
In this architecture, "there are no trivial buildings; even garden pavilions have nobility and dignity, and the humblest caravanserais generally have charm. In expressiveness and communicatively, most #Persian buildings are lucid – even eloquent. The combination of intensity and simplicity of form provides immediacy, while ornament and, often, subtle proportions reward sustained observation."

@gira_con_noi_sicilia — In palazzolo acreide on August 10 around noon, the town celebrates St. Sebastian. The arrow-pierced patron saint miraculously saved the people of Palazzolo Acreide from the plague, and since then, St. Sebastian and the other patron saints have been celebrated twice a year with brass music, ritual shouts, showers of red, white, and green paper strips, and hundreds of strong men in a chain of interlocking elbows dragging the golden chair with the saint through the streets.

Have you ever seen a yellow boxfish before? 🐠💛 “One of my most memorable yellow boxfish moments. The ~ 3 cm long, juvenile boxfish is a real eye candy. However, it is very difficult to observe (and even more difficult to film) since it is immediately hiding in the reef once you get closer.”
