What does it mean to usher in a materials revolution—in a way that is positive and beneficial? Sophia Wang, MycoWorks co-founder and Chief of Culture, spoke to this question in her talk this week at the @materialinnovation conference.
Partnership, diversity of thought, artistic integrity: three important principles and starting points that drive us.
Partnership: Within the company and across our industry, we partner like we’re on the same team, because we are. Our brand partners have been key to the innovation and final quality of our material; it’s a collaborative effort to bring the best material to the world.
Diversity of thought: As a biotech company founded by artists, we have this in our DNA: We see the unique diversity of professional disciplines and backgrounds in our industry as an opportunity that sparks innovation.
Artistic integrity: From our origin we recognized that for our industry to be successful we need to build materials that stand on their own—brands and consumers are not willing to compromise quality or performance for sustainability. We needed something that is cool, that also just happens to be good for our planet.
“This is the most exciting time in biomaterials. It’s critical that we assemble to engage in discussion and share findings in service of advancing the new materials revolution,” says Sophia (@windowonder).
Thank you to @materialinnovation for this inspiring chance to gather as #nextgenmaterials industry leaders and collaborators! #MaterialInnovationConference

Our Fine Mycelium™ platform is not only an industry breakthrough – it signals the beginning of a new era of materials. Over three decades of research and innovation, more than 70 patents awarded or pending and a freedom to customize that offers unprecedented design possibilities, have positioned MycoWorks as the pioneer in the biomaterials revolution.
“What MycoWorks has achieved with its Fine Mycelium™ platform is not just a breakthrough, it is a revolution for industries that are ripe for change,” said David Siminoff, general partner at @primemoverslab, for TechCrunch.

“The incredible demand at this point is easy to understand; not only does Fine Mycelium serve as a sustainable option with the look, feel and malleability of leather, but it also has properties that its animal-skin counterparts lack."
Our Freedom of Creation exhibit in NYC last month covered a lot of ground, and Amanda Breen speaks to all of it in Entrepreneur: MycoWorks’ strategy in the luxury fashion market, our exciting vision for expansion, the story of how our founders’ artistic beginnings launched a biotech company, and our Fine Mycelium™ technology and its exciting possibilities for customization.

“THE MATERIAL SPEAKS FOR ITSELF.” Those were words we heard again and again when MycoWorks’ Freedom of Creation exhibit opened its doors to press, thought-leaders, brand partners, designers and investors.
“What’s the first word I think of when I feel it? Future.”
Over three days in March, in NYC’s vibrant and creative Chelsea neighborhood, MycoWorks welcomed hundreds of guests to Freedom of Creation, an interactive exhibit offering complete access to our material, technology and the incredible story behind them.
In each of the exhibit’s four rooms, a unique sensory experience awaited guests.
The upbeat, bright, electric energy we felt all week throughout the space made it clear: the world is ready to get their hands on Reishi™, and to see the potential of the Fine Mycelium™ platform fully unleashed.
The world is already joining our journey to Grow the Future of Materials. To learn more about MycoWorks’ Freedom of Creation, the interactive exhibit we hosted in NYC in March, check out our recap, “Fine Mycelium™ takes NYC.” Link in bio.
