NYC, check out Creative Wildfire’s pop-up art show - an interactive gathering of workshops and discussion inviting the public to explore, reflect, and process topics like grief, disability justice, regenerative economics, the value of arts and culture in the just transition, and more! 9/17-9/18 at the Dojo. Creative Wildfire is a collaboration between three organizations that are paving the way towards a just transition - Climate Justice Alliance, Movement Generation, and New Economy Coalition. Last year they invited 19 artists and cultural workers to create art inspired by their Resist and Build manifesto. Seven of those artists and cultural workers have curated this event to collectively imagine creative solutions for ecological, economic and racial justice. The idea 💡 came from Bob Marley & the Wailers' song, "Chant Down Babylon." Marley was a deeply spiritual creator who brought Rastafarianism to mainstream consciousness. In Rastafarianism, Babylon is often referred to as governments and institutions which rebel against the will of Jah. Although I do not adhere to the Rasta faith (I identify as an artist-alchemist), I build upon metaphorical Babylon with my downCHANTS project while connecting to my Jamaican roots - exposing White Supremacy, Patriarchy, Corporate Greed and any other normalized isms that contributes to the Climate Crisis we now face. 🙌🏽💯 The majority of the short-form songs were produced by Charles “BLVK Samurai” Burchell @blvkbeats 🌹🌹🌹 This album was made possible by Creative Wildfire - a collective action involving artists from across the country and made possible by frontline communities.
