Looking back at my mindset in my teens and early 20s, I see so many things that I owe my body an apology for. Depriving her, wearing a waist trainer to contort her (LOL not proud of that one), and wishing away parts of her all together. It has taken YEARS of personal work and growth but today instead of apologizing, I’d like to say thank you.
.
.
.
To my legs that I once wished to be thinner, smoother and longer, thank you for carrying me places and allowing me to travel the world.
.
.
.
To my skin that I once wished to be tanner and freckle free, thank you for protecting my body, for healing my wounds & leaving scars in their place.
.
.
.
To my eyes that I once wished to be blue or green, thank you for helping me see the world, vividly, in full color.
.
.
.
To my hips and curves that I feared made me less than because I wasn’t a size 2, thank you for teaching me that beauty is not a “one size fits all.” No one should be denied the chance to feel beautiful exactly the way they are. And even if you have to remind yourself every minute of every day, YOU are worthy of loving and appreciating yourself regardless of your physical form. What can you thank your body for today? 🖤XO, Meg.

When I first finished cosmetology school, I didn’t have a job in the beauty industry for almost 4 months. I went to clients houses, did hair in bathrooms and washed people out in kitchen sinks (Cringe).
.
.
.
My first job in the industry was an assisting job, at a beautiful salon. I was told that if I pushed through each “level” in the program, one day I would get promoted to a rental stylist, when the salon owner decided I was ready. The structure felt comforting to me but I quickly learned that I make for a lousy assistant. I was clumsy and awkward and actually didn’t get to do much hair.
.
.
After 3 weeks I left/was fired from (I like to think it was mutual😂) that salon, discouraged and feeling like I didn’t have what it took to make it in this industry. I decided it was time to sink or swim and go for a job as a rental stylist.

I found the only booth rent in town I could afford and was so grateful for every damn head that sat in my chair.
The first year was grueling. I was full of self doubt and uncertainty but the one thing that remained constant was that I loved my clients and I loved being behind the chair.
.
.
.
That leap was the scariest one for me up to that point in my life/career. Just because I was following my passion in no way means that it was all sunshine and rainbows. I worked hard, I learned, I failed a lot and continue to do so. I’m still grateful for every single head that sits in my chair. Some days I feel uncertain but each year has brought me more amazing clients who inspire me with their stories, share their wisdom, and show me more love and appreciation that I even deserve.

So take the chance, you’ll either get what you wanted or learn what you needed. 💕✨
