A mako sharks mouth is one gigantic sensory organ. They use it to sense electro-magnetic energy, taste, touch, manipulate things, mate, eat and breathe. With so many uses they have to take great care of their mouths. Out of all the injuries we see on sharks, natural or otherwise the one question that really comes to mind a lot is how does an animal that is so sensitive to electrical magnetic energy handle metal objects like hooks or any gear left in the mouths? Navigation, hunting, smelling, etc. Does it scramble any signals? This observation isn’t a judgement or attack but as a very valid question. its something to think about. Hopefully we can find more creative methods to just avoid what may be a much larger deal than most think. I wish we had better answers but no one does. We as humans learn how to do things better and that’s all we can do or hope for I suppose. Thankful for this massive mako and the time she spent with us not too long ago.
