This is a really painful announcement. But due to this period of national mourning, Hackney Council made the decision to cancel Hackney Carnival. Although our day-programme has been canceled. Hackney Carnival might continue with a new program in a couple of weeks, but we are unsure at this time if it will go ahead or if we can participate.
We will still continue with our Fundraising event at Vogue Fabrics Dalston from 5pm till midnight. We believe it’s important for our community and our members to get together at what was supposed to be the first time we’re all back together since the pandemic.
I want to thank everyone who offered Faggamuffin support to get where we are today. Without you, this opportunity would not have come about.
Moving forward we are looking to resource Faggamuffin and we plan to move forward in abundance. We have learned so much over the last 5 years.
The Mas Band will be back next year, and we will be working with Tropical Isles, Beldyésmás, and a former Notting Hill Mas Band member to make sure that our float is top of the line. 2023 will be the first year that we see a QTBIPOC Mas Band on road for a Carnival! The support, the need, the community is there - and together we will make this dream, this historic moment, a reality!
The Soundsystem will also be back next year, as the cuts to Soundsystem from Hackney Carnival saw that we were unable to presume our normal programming. But we will not back down, and 2023 we will be back with our free, open-air, soundsystem programming featuring the artists and performers who have come up with Faggamuffin the last 5 years, and hopefully seek to build that roster.
We want to thank everyone who offered us support to get where we are today. Without you, this opportunity would not have come about.
Moving forward we will seek to make sure we are resourced so we can continue to champion the community that have come with us as Faggamuffin Bloc Party up until this point.

💕🙌🏾🙃🤓
That was very cute. Thanks @hkw_berlin for having me repping @faggamuffinblocparty with @lyallhakaraia & @blackobsidian_soundsystem with @mellowdramatics_
Was so nice to see some familiar faces @_sippin_t & @dr_ronx@djbiggyc 🥰🥰🥰 & meeting new beautiful humans such as @badgyal.felisha@876alchemist@govoi@jaevionn@serakalo to name a few - being in community with you made the weekend so nurturing, especially when exploring such sensitive topics.
Thank you to Phil Collins and Sinisia and the team at HKW Jessica and Anja for facilitating this space.
I hope we can continue to build on the conversations we started over the weekend. It’s so important to me that speaking and practicing communicating in community is a part of my practice as a cultural curator, as an event producer and as a creative.
About Desire Lines; (more in my linktree) What does it mean to be queer in the Caribbean, Pan-Caribbean and other island imaginaries? Artists, scholars and activists from Jamaica, Trinidad, Latin America’s Caribbean coast and the UK connect with Berlin’s diasporic queer communities and allies to address issues around queer love from a decolonial and intersectional perspective. Presentations, conversations and performances intertwine with a social space for gathering, cooking, partying and emancipatory imagination.

There aren’t many Lovers Rock, Rocksteady, Reggae, Ska, Calypso, Old School Dancehall, Dub, Mento, Jamaican Soul nights playing solely the classic records from the 60s/70s & 80s. We will be bridging this older music and delivering it to a newer audience, breaking down the previous barriers of past generations, making a dancehall atmosphere that is inclusive for all regardless of gender or spirituality. Shakedown brings back the love and enjoyment of the dance! We use the music as a means of education for our guests taking them on audible journeys through time, with carefully selected Dj's, Mc's and special guest singers.
Soundsystem culture and the Jamaican dancehall have a big part to play in the modern music scene, and the essence and spirit of Carnival and the dancehall is what Shakedown pride themselves on for a new generation. A lot of people forget there wouldn’t be modern genres without Soundsystem culture from Jamaica and the Caribbean having such a major influence in the UK since the wind rush times. Things wouldn’t have been the same and we’d like to celebrate the Caribbean bearings older genres have had on the way UK culture has developed over time.
Playing all vinyl, and with a majority female lineup, we differ from most other male led Dj's and Sound Systems in the reggae scene.
