This palimpsest advertising “Bollom Dry Cleaners” was found outside a house in Bedminster, Bristol. The company was founded by Ivor Bertie Bollom in Bedminster in 1924 as a “Dyer and Cleaner” & eventually had branches all over the south of England & Wales. It was a family business (his brothers & sons were also directors) until they were bought out by Johnsons Cleaners in 1954 but continued to trade under the Bollom name until 1997. This ornate mosaic doorstep for “Pyne’s” was found in the entrance of a restaurant in Epping, Essex. Frederick Walter Pyne opened his drapery shop in High Street, Epping in 1888 & the company traded for just over 100 years, by which time it had evolved into a department store.
