This is a picture of the moment Female Footballers was born.
Founder, Kassie Gray, was playing in her yard with her 1 year old daughter in 2014. Maybe most moms who played collegiately would pay attention to her daughters touch or speed with hopes she’ll follow in her mamas footsteps someday. Looking for a glimpse of “talent”, ha.
But instead Kassie focused on all of the lessons, the mental skills and highs and lows the game brought her. She wondered what the youth soccer world and the system was like now that she was a mom, no longer a coach and not a player.
So she started researching and writing. Writing about all the things that girls go through in sport that no one sees but all girls feel. Researching the changes made to the system over the time she’d been gone.
And then she stepped back and realized that although there were new leagues, a lot more acronyms of levels, many more tiers of players and still very few women coaches, girls were still in need of deliberate, consistent mental skills training to help them progress through their soccer journey and career. So they’d come out on the other side more confident, self aware, and able to have a higher emotional intelligence. She focused on what she wished she had when she played and how those silent skills can help girls navigate the world after sport.
So she took a leap of faith and started Female Footballers.
