Keshia Chanel Geter, a 26-year-old Black transgender woman, was shot and killed in Augusta, Georgia last Wednesday. She is at least the the 21st trans or gender non-conforming person shot and killed this year.
Last year was the deadliest year on record for trans and gender non-conforming people in the U.S., and Black transgender women bear the brunt of this hate-fueled gun violence.
Our lax gun laws make transphobia even deadlier than it already is. We must #DisarmHate.

Congress isn’t where this work begins—it’s where it ends. This victory has been years in the making. Years of knocking on doors, calling voters, showing up to statehouses in red shirts, and shifting the culture around gun safety in America one conversation at a time.
This would not have been possible without the millions of Americans who dedicate their lives to this fight—the survivors who push through their pain, the students who want to live past graduation, the parents who want to protect their children.
We continue to move the needle on gun safety. There is still much more to be done to #EndGunViolence. If you're ready to join us, text READY to 644-33.
