Salkantay Trek
In the first bigger town I decide to restart my phone and check what hostel Leonor was staying, and it is actually in the village I just arrived. I decide to rest and wait for a bit, as I arrived fairly early. In the meantime I met this lovely Polish couple on a motorbike, who leave off to Cusco as they cannot pass the trek. Later I meet an American couple with whom I end up chatting the rest of the afternoon. Leonor arrives later and I definitely decide to stay in the village with the tent straight on the grass field in front of the bar. Lucky me!
Dinner is ready and with a group of French travelers. They are planning their next hike and because they wanted to have a good view the next day, they'll have to walk over 23 km with in the end a steep climb. I overthink what their route is and remember to check where the road would split. The thing is that usually tours organize a visit to thermal pools close to Santa Teresa which are not in the same direction as this viewpoint in Llactapata. The rest of the night is calm as the French keep returning to speaking French and the tourguides are drunk in another corner, so great to write down memories to remember.
The next morning breakfast is promised to be later, at 6.30, so I make sure I am ready by that time. Ironically the French are not yet ready as they were complaining about the time, and by the time I finished my breakfast they barely started theirs.
This day the route is incredibly busy. After the first quiet half and hour I start passing groups and groups of over 30 people in total (as I don't have the minor stops to explain what plants grow there and local customs people have). The route continues from the denser green parts of yesterday into lush forest patches with trees, banana plants and colorful birds.
