@voguemagazine for PRIDE month
"We think of men wearing makeup and embracing femininity as a modern concept, but it's been happening for hundreds of thousands of years," says makeup artist Darian Darling (@moidariandarling). "Makeup has no
gender and can be for anyone and everyone. It's all about self-expression and being free." This ethos is at the heart of Darling's collaboration with rising pop singer and beauty shape-shifter @jakewesleyrogers, in honor of #Pride month.
The task? To illustrate men's makeup throughout history.
First up: Let Them Wear Rouge! "From the French courtiers of Versailles to the Macaroni of England, the 18th century was the birth of men wearing makeup in the modern context as we know it today," says Darling. "I don't know if I was a dandy in my past life, but in this look I stand a bit taller," says Rogers. "It feels right."
