How I am making my own Couture wedding dress
Part II The flower embroidery
.
As a true Parisian I grew up looking at Chanel and Dior window shops and when it came to my own wedding dress shopping well I wasn't too happy with the options of either buying a huge plastic fishnet and a £30K custom dress.
.
So I gave myself a budget of £1500, took on an embroidery course and utilised my own fashion training. My dress will be 100% made with organic fabrics, custom embroidered with second hand beads from the 1900s and probably the most Couture piece of clothing I will ever make or own 🌺

Who said sustainability was expensive ??

Meet Yoo-Sun, marine biologist in 2050. Climate change has modified the surface of the Earth and most land is under water. Humans have learnt to use algae and seaweed as primary material to manufacture technical clothing and work with this new ecosystem.
.
I am super chuffed to wrap one of the most amazing projects I have had the opportunity to work on. I was chosen by the charity @climatechangeallchange to design and teach a curriculum in my local primary school to help 10 year old pupils to create their own fashion solutions to tomorrow's challenges.
.
This look was manufactures by myself but drawn and conceptualised by a team of very talented little girls. They created their own materials including cork leather, crystal patterns and algae sequins. I recreated these sequins in real life with real algae powder, crystallography and cork leather.
.
This project is part of a national programme involving many design disciplines, stay tuned to discover the rest of the projects ! The process and drawings by the children can be seen in the highlights !

I keep getting asked about this hat 👀
You can now grab it as part of my ready-to-wear collection at @osmosestudio 🌺
.
It's the first hat I have designed entirely from waste and (shocking) it's wearable 😋. It's made with silk waste from clothing manufactures and crocheted by hand in the UK.

I have actually decided not to lend my Couture pieces for magazine editorials anymore. I can't really comprehend why designers, who spend so much of their own money on their work and obviously don't get paid for it while doing it, have to lend their pieces that represent hundreds of hours of work, for free.
.
Sometimes I have been asked to pay for shipping, and 70% of the time, the pieces are not even featured. It is called "loan" but really the word doesn't really suit, because at this stage it is exploitation of naive young designers who don't really know how to stand up for themselves yet.
.
Instead I'd rather lend my pieces to fellow artists and performers who are in the same situation that they don't often get paid for their art and need the support. Let's be a community and help the ones who really need it.
