@justinmcwilliams prepping our Canon K-35 25-120mm T2.8 and an Alexa Mini. Behind those amazing gold coatings, there used to be an oddly shaped baffle installed by Canon to help reduce lens flares and veiling glare. We removed it because the lens flares and veiling glare on this lens are both absolutely beautiful characteristics, and there is no reason to alter them. AND the baffle actually effects the shape of your bokeh and reduces the lens’ image circle causing vignette on some “S35” sensors at certain focal lengths.
So after the baffle is removed, flares/ghosts reach their full potential, image circle (coverage) improves, and bokeh (especially wide open) looks incredible.
Wide open, and at certain focal lengths, this lens has some of the most beautiful bokeh of any lens, ever. Oh, and the flares are incredible.
We also had @ducloslenses install a standard 136mm front ring so that the lens works with clip on matte boxes, which is a must for this lens.
These are the things we do behind the scenes to make sure the gear is as good as it can be, and you are not fighting with it on set. This K-35 zoom was always amazing, and now it’s even better.
Lastly: did you know this lens has has a macro function allowing you to focus almost right up to the front element? Very cool.
