When I think of hope for the future, I immediately think of the young people in our world. Here are some pics of Haydn among friends and peers. I hope Nineteen will be a reminder to this generation of youth that YOUTH CAN MOVE THE WORLD! Lest anyone think this is naive, or before you offer any number of gut-wrenching statistics about the pandemic of loneliness and depression among young people, I am aware of those. I too am alarmed by this trend. Our young people are being battered by the forces of our time, especially in more materialistic societies. For all its benefits and wonders, social media is a heady fuel to fan the flames of comparison, stealing our joy and adding to the illusion of everyone out there being happier, healthier, richer, more popular, and generally more together than we are. How ironic that social media, apparently connecting us all in a world of unlimited friends and followers, is causing so many young people to feel more alone and unworthy. So, to where do we turn to find our worth? Our joy? Our authentic selves? Our true friends? Our meaning and purpose? If Haydn's approach to living, and dying at the age of nineteen, can offer insights into such important questions, especially for young people, then Nineteen will have served an important purpose.
