To see out #mentalhealthawarenessweek I want to share a little portrait series I’ve been working on - the concept is to break down some of the toxic masculinity that I still see around me. So here’s 5 men showing some vulnerability (myself included). To hopefully make it just a little more normal for men to cry. I can’t bare to think how many men have bottled up their thoughts and emotions and not spoken out, because they feel like it’s not a very “manly” thing to do. I dread to think how many men have lost lives due to that stigma and association. I hope my images help break that barrier down somewhat. If you’re reading this and struggle to open up to your mates, I hope this series shows enough vulnerability to maybe change your mindset towards that. I remember the first time I broke down crying because my mental health had taken a turn for the worst. I was second year at uni, in the kitchen making food while the lads were stood there chatting away. My mate asked me if I was okay and I broke down crying in his arms. My OCD and intrusive thoughts had got the better of me, a disorder I didn’t know I had at the time, and something I want to start to chat about more, after 5 years of it affecting my life in various ways. Anyway, hope this little series helps someone out there talk 💙📸. (Also big love to the 4 top blokes that said yes to getting involved with my idea, forever grateful).
